INUYARAI (犬 矢 来)
Si paseamos por los antiguos barrios de Kyoto, con las hermosas calles tradicionales japonesas, una de las cosas que nos sorprende es que muchas casas tienen una especie de zócalo o falda. Normalmente son de bambú curvado,aunque también los hay de metálicos o plástico.
Este elemento arquitectónico es típico de Kyoto y no es fácil adivinar la utilidad de dicho elemento: llamado inuyarai , eso nos da una pista ya que inu significa "perro", estas vallas fueron diseñadas originalmente para evitar que los perros marquen su territorio y orinen en las paredes de la casa. Pero también tienen otras utilidades: proteger las paredes contra las salpicaduras de lluvia y barro y evitar que las personas se apoyaran contra las paredes.
Cualquiera que fuera su propósito en el pasado, ya no es necesario, las calles están asfaltadas y no hay barro cuando llueve y tampoco hay perros callejeros, pero conservan un atractivo y elegante diseño.
